The FIFA Corruption Scandal – FIFA officials are cooperating with Swiss authorities to unravel the countries bribing officials and referees.
According to Swiss prosecutors:
“We have filed criminal charges against unidentified individuals on suspicion of mismanagement and money laundering related to the awarding of rights to host the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar”
It is also reported that Swiss authorities are going to investigate allegations by top officials concerning the use of racketeering, bribery, money laundering and fraud around the 2010 World Cup, involving Spain who won the praised cup that year.
Meanwhile, U.S. prosecutors are going after 14 people, nine of them are FIFA officials, four are sports marketing executives and one accused intermediary — in corruption allegations involving more than $100 million.
I was ridiculed at the time for publicly claiming that Spain and Russia were bribing referees but who won the Cup that year? Spain. Maybe I should’ve kept that information to myself and bet on both teams.
I love football and am a big football fan, but what has happened to this organization is a terrible thing. These things have been going on for years.
Spain won ALL their tournament games by one goal, each and every time leading with 1-0? There is no coincidence in my mind…! – says a Lord Triesman who was working with FIFA’s management in 2010.
In 2010, Jorge Perez Arias the secretary general of Spanish football federation had labelled the idea of his country trying to bribe World Cup referees as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘impossible’.
