Woman Beaten On Her Wedding Night By Her Husband Because He “Couldn’t Get Her Dress Off”

Amy Dawson married her long-term partner, Gavin Golightly, 29, at a church wedding in County Durham. The couple, then had a reception at Beamish Hall, a country hotel. Upon returning to their room, Dawson asked Golightly to help her remove her dress.

An argument broke out after he was unable to, and he beat her badly. During the attack he threw her to the floor, sat on her and began punching her, leaving her with a cut eybrow and bruised face and chest. She eventually managed to escape him and contacted a hotel porter, who called the police.

Golightly later claimed his drink had been spiked, but pleaded guilty to assault at Peterlee Magistrates Court.

Dawson told the Mirror that his behaviour had changed since the birth of their child:

When I first met Gavin, he was lovely, I couldn’t fault him. He was caring and loving, and when we found we were having baby, we were delighted. I fell pregnant after eight months, but almost straight away, Gavin became controlling and manipulative. It was like walking on eggshells. When he lashed out at me on my wedding night, I thought I was going to die. I was terrifed. He looked like he was going to kill me.
