The family of transgender woman is upset as the man who admitted to beating her to death, only received probation.
According to reports, in 2013 James Dixon, 25, viciously beat Islan Nettles to death in Harlem feeling that his manhood was questioned when he hit on her not realizing that she was born a male.
“I JUST DIDN’T WANT TO BE FOOLED, HE SAID DRYLY IN THE RECORDED INTERVIEW.”
Islan Nettle’s mother, had the opportunity to speak to Dixon and share how she robbed her son of his future.
I had the best of both worlds — I had a son and a daughter so I got to share that experience, she said. But as far as James Dixon — I will hate you. I will hate you for the rest of my life for taking something that belonged to me, she fumed.
Nettles said her daughter was “beat so bad she had to have brain surgery as soon as she went in.”
He looked away from Nettles’ relatives when they poured their hearts out in front of a packed courtroom and he declined to speak or apologize to them when offered the chance.
Dixon initially rejected the plea deal, which gives him just 12 years in prison in exchange for the guilty plea. Dixon agreed to the plea deal on the eve of the start of the trial this week. He originally could have faced up to 25 years in prison.
