Mississippi – A 38-year-old Dikembe Gutombo, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after his girlfriend was found dead in their Monroe St. home over the weekend.
Reportedly, neighbors called authorities and reported a domestic disturbance after they heard shouting from Gutombo residents.
When police arrived, they found 24-year-old Awatta Gutombo unresponsive on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds. Gutombo immediately confessed to police that he killed his wife, but the reason stunned investigators.
According to Gutombo’s confession, he complained that Awatta would not make eye contact with him when he was trying to have a conversation with her.
“SHE NEVER LOOK AT ME DIRECTLY SHE LOOK AT WALL OR SOMEWHERE ELSE SHE NO RESPECT ME AS MAN” — GUTOMBO
I mean, have you seen her eyes? I don’t mean to be rude, but nobody would know which way she was looking or which eye to make contact with. It’s just a real shame.”
According to the 911 transcripts, a neighbor reported the disturbance saying she heard shouting were Gutombo continued to demand from his wife, “look at me, look at me, look at me with both eyes you pu*k *** b*tch not just one!”
The neighbor could hear Awatta crying, “I am but you never believe me!” That’s when Gutombo admitted to stabbing his girlfriend repeatedly until she completely stopped breathing.
Gutombo is being held without bond pending a mental evaluation.
